I have been in the business of training for over 20 years having trained both customer service and business communication for over 50 organisations, across more than 10 countries, for thousands of participants.
My journey into the area of really understanding how to craft responses to customer complaints and handling difficult emails from colleagues and customers started in 1993. This was when I was with the Communications Office at the largest tertiary hospital in Singapore and had the dual role of Comms Exec and as a Press Officer there.
In those early days, I used to write emails that were long-winded, missing data (especially when there were multiple issues involved), and lacked clarity. This did nothing for building credibility and confidence on the hospital. And me, too.
Within a few years of that, I had figured out a system that works. And it has served me well all these years. garnering compliments from former bosses, colleagues and clients too.
And now you too can save time and reduce stress by knowing exactly what to do as soon as you receive that difficult email. Identify what MUST be addressed - from the issues to the emotions expressed - and in the process build trust and empathy with your emails.
