Trading mindset for Beginners

More than 2 years ago, I attended my first trading course in life. In the final lesson, teacher told us that we had completed the training and all we needed was the market time. Little did I know that it was so hard to experience the market time.

Along the way, my common mistakes included wrong position sizing, poor money management, not taking profit fast enough and not cutting loss quickly too. When I searched my class notes again, I realised these trading practices were either hastily passed in the lessons or left to the last chapter. A new trader is so excited to test the new trading method/system learnt, but he/she often pays little attention to these important trading practices until is burnt. I was paralysed in trading for few months …..

Until one day, I recalled “Monty Hall problem” – a game which is about probability and to evaluate your decisions as new information emerges because there is a 2/3 chance that your initial choice was wrong! I quickly re-evaluated my portfolio – keep good horses and sell bad performers, to focus my money into sell put strategy. With this, I managed to clear my mind and focus on managing my money like a professional.
