K, R: Families Launching Young Adults

Young adult will inevitably start to look at ways where they need to live on their own. Ultimately, it is a time where they would leave the home, leave the family.

This is the stage where parents would:

  1. see themselves prepare their children for an independent living through schooling and job skills. They could be financing them through university or other tertiary education.
  2. accept their child's independence.
  3. see themselves releasing their young adults and accepting new ways of relating to them.
  4. maintain a supportive home base for their children.

The above are the expected developmental phases of a teenager or growing young adult, where parents (willingly or unwillingly) would face.

They would find themselves getting ready to build a career, have a place for themselves, and form relationship, among others. Some would stay longer with their parents as they try to firm up their career and relationship.
